Having upgraded the truck and Airstream, there is one more piece to the puzzle. The Airstream now has awnings all around, which is great in controlling heat in the summer and being able to leave windows open while it’s raining. Auto Trim Design installed a backup camera on the truck and the trailer. It is so nice to look in the rear view mirror and see out the back of the trailer. The one on the truck is much better than the factory-installed camera for hitching the trailer. The new (2015) GMC Denali diesel is well-equipped for pulling a trailer up and down mountains and across the country. I put a forward-facing camera in the truck. It runs in continuous loop recordings in 3-minute segments in case someone does something stupid in front of me, causing an accident. Auto Trim Design installed a paint protection sheet on the front of the truck. The Nissan took such a beating in the front from gravel, bugs, dirt and sand.
In White City, Oregon, Highway Products will install a “truck slide”, toolbox and ladder racks. I have searched far and wide for a better solution for storage in the back of the truck, and I know this will do the trick. It’s a great system. The only question is whether I can get the bikes in it, but I will find out in a couple of weeks. The next question will be loading kayaks and a canoe, but I’m sure we can manage that with some modifications.
First stop along the way is Columbus, Ohio to visit Ed McGlumphy. Diego is coming up from Mexico City! We will go see Ed’s new cabin, then head up to Traverse City and hopefully visit Mike Majchrowicz. All of us studied prosthodontics together at Ohio State.
I will hope to do some fishing in Oregon and explore the area. Oddly, it is in the mid-90’s and sunny in Oregon. With forest fires throughout the west, I will have to keep an eye on that.
Kelly is coming out August 20 for three weeks of fishing in Canada. Then Martha will join me to explore Vancouver, Idaho, Washington and Oregon.
