Our mission for the day was to drive 4 1/2 hours to Edisto Beach State Park in South Carolina. We wanted to take the ferry to Southport, but the 10:00 ferry didn’t go due to fog, so we waited for the 11:30. I took the opportunity to settle a few more little issues. My tire monitor wasn’t working for all the tires, so I changed batteries on those. Still not working, so I fiddled some more to no avail.
I was not able to connect to my phone hotspot, so I fooled with that for a while. I could connect to Martha’s, but not mine. Sometimes I just feel I have this negative energy emanating that disturbs electrical things. Maybe tomorrow would be better.
After sitting around all morning, now there was a mad dash for the ferry. First we went the wrong way, taking another tour of the campground. Finally on the road, I got behind the world’s slowest driver. It was 11:29 when I pulled up to the ticket booth. Fortunately the lady was super nice and let us go. I have learned to watch the loading person with total attention, and he guided us on safely.
On deck it was windy and quite chilly, but it was only a 30 minute trip and a quick unloading. We stopped at a picnic area just after the ferry and had lunch. We still had 4 1/2 hours to go, so I was anxious to get going.
It looked like we would go straight down Rt.17, but this is a VERY busy route with stop lights. After a Starbucks stop, we debated which route to take. It’s hard enough with one person giving me directions, but two was too much, so I said we would just meet at the campground.
I kept questioning the GPS and cursing it as we went north, then west, then south through the middle of a state forrest. Finally we came out on Rt. 17 again just in time for rush hour around the north side of Charleston. Then we turned onto Rt. 174 SE to Edisto Island, and the tensions eased. But then we missed the park entrance and took a tour of the town of Edisto Beach, which is very nice. By the time we pulled into the campground it was 5:30, and Ruff and Sandra were just pulling into their campsite.
A good fire in Sandra’s new Solo Stove and a little wine, and all the stresses drifted away. The campground is right behind the beach sand dunes, and we were overlooking the marsh and a beautiful sunset.
