Kayaking Burt Mill Creek

Thursday, March 4, 2021

A downy woodpecker, the smallest of the woodpecker family, worked on a limb in our campsite.

Colin Burns gave us some tips on places to fish and kayak near St. Andrews State Park. We opted for Burt Mill Creek. There is a nice boat ramp, parking area and even has a porta potty 😊. Two guys were just taking out after a day of fishing, but hadn’t had any luck.

The creek breaks up into a couple of streams, and makes for some interesting exploring. We went upstream about an hour and a half against wind and current. When we turned around, we didn’t have to do a thing but steer.

As we took out, two guys were putting in with their motored fishing boat. One was talking on the phone. The other offered to help us put the kayaks back on the truck. We thanked him, but declined. Martha and I looked at each other and said maybe we have another year doing this. It’s really not that hard, but there is one point where I step down from the top of the tool box onto the tail gate that’s a bit hairy. A slip there and it won’t be pretty, but hey, you can’t stop doing things.

Often the best part of the day is sitting around the fire telling stories
