Ichetucknee Springs State Park

At $22/kayak and put-in and take-out, we rented four kayaks for a two-hour float down the river, which flows into the Santa Fe River, which flows into the Suwannee River. The water was clear with fish jumping frequently. Largemouth bass, mullet and 29 other species of fish live here. We had great viewings of Manatee, and we were surprised how big they are. One had two babies with her. It is a beautiful float, but on a Sunday, there were a lot of kayaks on the river, which wasn’t really a problem. Toward the last third of the trip, lots of tubers entered the river at a dock, and that’s a different crowd. All-in-all a worthwhile trip, but try to go on a week day.

    Greg,
While attending University of Florida in the late 70’s we would often tube down the Santa Fe. A fraternity brother had a house on the river. We would put in upriver and float down to his house where they were roasting a pig. We had a boat with a keg in the bow running up and down the river filling solo cups. Larry

Love the photo of the turtles! So jealous of your warm weather but ours will come.

Do you have any concerns about alligators while Kayaking or tubing in Florida?

Don, I am always watching for snakes and alligators, but I have yet to see either in any of the springs we have been in, but I think they are there. It’s a bit too cool for them, but with the flooding there may be more concern. I think if there were issues, they wouldn’t allow tubing and snorkeling.
